From Material-Girl
To Jem-Girl! |
- In The Beginning... -
Madonna came to fame in the early 1980's, blazing the social norm with
her own uniquely intense and addictive style. Meanwhile, Hasbro began to seek out a
way to enter the fashion doll market. They didn't want to create another Barbie rip-off,
so their doll was going to be unique. This doll line was going to capitalize on the MTV
era, of which Madonna was the absolute ruler. The doll's line would be named simply
"M", which would easily connect her to Madonna's and MTV's popularity. Her real
name would be Morgan and her secret identity would be "Misty". Hasbro and Sunbow
Productions also began work on 15, 8-Minute animated segments for TV to promote the dolls.
They hired Christy Marx to give M life and they were all set. However, Hasbro realized
that you can't copyright a letter, so M became Jem and the rest in history. |

- What's Special About Madonna's Birthday??? -
So above I listed Madonna's birthday as being in common with Jem's.
Don't see it, do ya? Well, just take a look at what I see that you don't when we do...
The Jem Math!
First, start with Madonna's birthday, August 16, 1958 (8-16-1958).
Then, add the number of the month to the number of the year ( 8 + 1958 ). Next, take the
number of the day, reverse the digits and put a hypen in the middle ( 6-1 ). Now put it
back together and say... Happy Birthday Jerrica!
(6-1-1966).
Almost missed it, didn't ya?
Madonna's Lucky Star
Below you can listen to an instrumental of Madonna's "Lucky Star" or read the lyrics for the song. Also, you can download a special copy of Madonna's "Lucky Star". It has been shortened by removing its original long, repeating chorus and instrumental breaks. This song was chosen because it's possible it influenced Jem's creation. Starlight, starbright, and stars are concepts that are implanted in infinite ways in Jem's life.
