Welcome To Jem
Unlimited
So let's start with the basics:
Who or what is Jem?
Jem is a cartoon character / doll series released sometime in the mid-1980s. Jerrica
Benton inherited a computer (Synergy) which could project life-like holograms. To save her
father's company from a sleazy businessman, she secretly marketed herself (in the guise of
Jem) as her new music act and took back the company.
And she deserves attention because?
Well, she basically had everything you could want (especially if you were a girl).
Basically, cartoons for girls are usually these candy-coated, fluffy-animal shows. They
have nothing for girls to aspire to become (I mean what girl thinks they can actually be a
pony, care bear, or smurf?) Guys have things like Batman, Superman, and etc.
Incredible lifestyles, cool technology, dazzling enemies, but most of all, essentially
just regular guys with cool stuff. If you wanna be Batman, just get rich and buy a
bat-suit. Be G.I.Joe, just join the military. And girls... well... were left with
nothing but pony, bears, and smurfs.
Until Jem!
Jem was a cool mix of Batman, Superman, Barbie, and Josie and the Pussycats with a little
Sci-Fi and Love tossed in. Finally, the reachable fantasy. If a girl wanted to be
Jem, all you need to do was sing, do the right thing when it counts, and get in a really
messed up relationship (Rio loves me, and he also loves me, but I hope he loves me
more!). She had Batman's lifestyle (business girl by day, singer/hero by night),
Superman's whole love triangle problem (complete with her own secret identity), could out
dress Barbie any day of the week, could sing like nobody's business, and when she had a
free second, save the day hero-style!
And then you have her cast
No guys here! This cast was almost completely girls. The Holograms were unique
in their own coolness. And nothing has, does, or ever will compare to the Misfits.
If you weren't into the whole nice girl thing, then they quickly become your idols
because... well... because Pizzazz said so!
And the best thing was...
This show never went to an extreme of a certain genre. For example, Power Rangers is
always about fighting some lame monster with our big cheesy robot. Jem, however, was
cooler. One day it would be action-packed (like the Princess and the Singer), the next
it'd be all romance (like Stinger's Hit Town), then suspense (The Fan), the a comedy (I
can still see poor Stormer bouncing on spring heels in Hot Time In Hawaii), and then
friendly (The Bands Break Up). This kept the show fun instead of monotonous. |

Time For Some Q
and A!
What's up with this site?
Basically Jem's all over the internet (and makin' a killing on Ebay), so another Jem site
isn't too big a deal. I mean, she has like 100 sites. However, like anybody online,
I like a site that has something I can take with me. Not many Jem sites have that. And
that's the whole point of Jem Unlimited!!! I seriously doubt I'll tell Jem fans
anything new (well, besides the Madonna thing and the Jem Movie thing that you'll probably
read and talk about later) because Jem's been around for at least 15 years. So the
purpose of this site is to give you something to take with you: Music, PC stuff
(screensavers, skins, etc), and some other nifty things.
So what happened to Jem Universe?
Turns out there's a guitar company and a Jem online RPG that use that name, so I changed
names.
So where's this site been the last 3 months?
NBCI kept deleting the site and I had some school stuff to finish up. I took a little
break, revamped this site completely, and now it's back better than ever.
Where's (fill in the blank)?
Yeah, I'm missing some stuff, but it is on the way.
Do I need anything special for this site?
Not really. There's no pop-up windows (Thank goodness), no slow macromedia flash effects,
not crappy Java-applets to crash the browser. The only thing here is RealAudio and it's
only on about 15 of the site 124 pages. If you want to download some stuff, the Intro Page gave you all the basics you need. However, I did
code these pages to Microsoft's HTML coding standards, so the pages look better with
Internet Explorer.
I love this site!
Thanks, in August/September this site gets its next big update and I'm hoping to hit Jem
fans with three big things that you should love (as well as my long, long, LONG overdue
animated series section) .
I don't like this site!
Well, I tried. There's a links page in 'Information'. Maybe you'll find something that's
more your style. If you have a suggestion, I'm all ears.
